Burgess Hill concert In Loving Memory of Angus raises £700 for charity

Rock band In Loving Memory formed by Tom Blunt, Ross Campbell, Ollie Hopkins, Jake Tweddle and the late Angus Rowland’s brother Ed, contributed to the Angus Rowland ForgetMeNot Fund after Rock to Beat Blood Cancer at St Paul’s Catholic College on Friday.

Angus’ mum Elizabeth said the gig went ‘brilliantly’.

“Rock to Beat Blood Cancer was an amazing night of music featuring four great bands. A huge thank you to everyone who came along to support them and raise money to beat help Beat Blood Cancer,” she said.

The evening started with a set from Central Sussex College’s Eleven Eleven, followed by The Pumps from Brighton with their brand of alternative rock.

“Crawley’s Indie Rock band, Mile High City took to the stage and got everyone rocking. They also donated sales from the EPs sold on the night too,” Elizabeth added.

Ariel Company Theatre supplied the lighting and sound rig.

“This made the whole event very professional and transformed the school hall into a rock venue,” Elizabeth explained.

“We would like thank all the bands for all their hard work especially In Loving Memory, who spent two days setting up the stage and organising the school space, Nicci and Neil Hopson and The Ariel Crew for the wonderful sound and lighting rig, Giacomo Morrone for security, Jonny Pearson and the SPCC premises team, Bob and Vivienne who ran the bar and everyone who worked so hard backstage to make it all happen smoothly.”

Angus Rowland was a classmate and a talented guitarist and the band were ‘devastated’ when he died in 2011.

They had been very close to him during his illness, spending as much time as possible with him at hospital and home.

The family of Angus Rowland, from Staplefield, set up a fund at Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research in his name and have raised over £130K since may 2011.
