This event is for young carers aged 6-11 years living in the Burgess Hill area.

Young carers are children and young people who help look after a member of the family who is sick, disabled or has mental health problems, or is misusing drugs or alcohol.

They may be someone who has direct caring responsibilities or they may be someone whose life is affected as a result of living with someone who has these conditions.

With so many adult responsibilities, young carers often miss out on opportunities that other children have to play and learn.

The Fun Afternoon will provide an opportunity for the young carers to have fun and try out a range of activities, including junk art, crafts, Tomfoolery entertainment, sports and much more.

The event is organised by the Mid Sussex Young Carers Partnership, including Burgess Hill Town Council, Burgess Hill Youth, Outset Youth Action and Crossroads Care South Central. Young volunteers from Outset Youth Action will also help run the activities on the day.

Town Mayor of Burgess Hill, Chris Thomas-Atkin, said: “The role of young carers tends to be overlooked but the success of previous young carers events shows there is a real need. I am proud that the Town Council plays a part in organising the fun days and we will continue to provide our support.”

The Young Carers Partnership is planning an ongoing programme of activities for young carers.
