Burgess Hill student to cycle in memory of friend who died of tumour

Tom Andrew, 14, who goes to Oakmeeds Community College, is riding for The Emily Ash Trust, a charity run by the family of his friend Adam Green who was diagnosed with a tumour aged twelve and died three years later in 2012.

Tom said: “Adam was a popular, fun loving boy and an inspiration to us all. After a three year fight, Adam sadly lost his battle with cancer.”

He will take on the cycle with dad, Mark, who says he is ‘apprehensive and excited’.

Tom continued: “I have been interested in cycling for the last six years.

“When I was nine I cycled 70 miles around the Isle of Wight, aged 12 I cycled up Mont Vontoux, the infamous climb of the Tour De France and last year I completed my longest ride, 132 miles in a day.

“This year, my aim is to cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats. On the 28th July my Dad and I will be setting off from Land’s End in Cornwall and cycling a thousand miles to John O’Groats in Scotland over ten days for charity.”

The charity aims to improve quality of life for young people and their families facing leukaemia and cancer.
