Warden Park Primary Academy said a parent reported that after school last Thursday (November 5), their child was approached, while walking home, by a man driving a black people carrier type vehicle, near the roundabout at the junction of B2272 and B2112.

The man then allegedly tried to persuade her into the vehicle before a member of the public intervened and the car drove away.

Headteacher Steve Davis said: “We were made aware of the incident on Friday morning and shared the details of the incident with all parents and staff, as well as, the headteachers of the other schools in Haywards Heath.

Parents and teachers have taken steps to ensure that children are clear about how to keep themselves safe when walking to and from school.

“The safety and wellbeing of pupils is our number one priority.”

Sussex Police has been approached for a comment.
