The MP said the closure of Crown Post Office in South Road, as a result of Co-op’s decision close its shop this month, ‘must be resolved without delay’.

He has written to the Post Office on behalf of residents making clear the need for temporary arrangements to be in place.

He said: “It is simply not acceptable to leave the very many people who use the Post Office high and dry, resulting in a grotesque inconvenience for many of my constituents.

“I look to the Post Office to put in place arrangements to reopen the Post Office in Haywards Heath town centre as a matter of urgency”.

The Post Office told the MP it was considering interest from a number of retailers to host a replacement branch, but no timetable had been provided.

The South Road Post Office provides services such as ParcelForce Express, passport and identity checking services, vehicle tax and DVLA photocard renewals and other services which are not available at ‘local’ Post Office counters.
