Consort’s second concert

The Consort of Twelve, the baroque ensemble of the south, is giving its second concert in the summer series in Holy Trinity Church, Bosham on Sunday, July 17 at 6pm, with a pre-concert talk on the music by Professor Roger Parker of King’s College, London.

Director Ian Graham-Jones said: “The programme in the Echoes of Italy series is called Venice and Abroad and features music by Venetian composers Vivaldi, Albinoni and Torelli in the first half, while the second half concentrates on Italian composers who ventured abroad, mainly to England, to seek their fortune.

“The guest leader for the concert is baroque violinist Catherine Martin, who will be playing a Vivaldi Violin Concerto. Catherine is leader of the Gabrieli Consort and Players and has appeared as guest soloist and leader with several London orchestras, notably The English Concert.

“She is also a member of the Salomon String Quartet and teaches at the Royal College of Music, besides having a busy recording schedule.

“Other soloists are Helen Hooker, who will be playing a Sammartini Recorder Concerto, and Gerard McDonald and Debby England with a concerto by Albinoni for two oboes. The programme concludes with an ever popular concerto grosso by Handel.

Tickets are £12 from Chichester Office supplies, Crane Street, or online from WeGotTickets.com.

Ian added: “Although tickets will be available on the door, it is advisable to book in advance, as last year’s concert at Bosham was very full.”
