Councillors give shedders £3,000

The pair paid Burgess Hill Shed a visit – a scheme developed for skilled craftsmen and a place to meet and make friends.

Councillors on the committee have provided a £3,000 grant to help the shedders purchase pottery workshop equipment.

Councillor Anne Jones said: “I am hoping that we will be able to benefit the craftsmen who have so many skills that they may also pass those skills on to the next generation.

“This grant will enable the shed to extend its offer, which is currently based on woodwork and crafts, into creative pottery and art work.

“By doing so, it will not only save an existing community pottery class but provide a welcome resource for the whole community, especially local schools and special needs groups.”

The shed is opening its doors to the public on March 15.

The registered charity, which helps disadvantaged people in Burgess Hill and the surrounding areas has been building a community workshop for the past six months, making new benches and installing machinery and tools and will officially open its doors from 10am to 2.30pm at the Burnside Centre in Victoria Road.
