Workers and visitors at the Henfield Truffles Bakery store, in High Street, will hope cameras have caught their best sides as they are set to appear in a Channel 4 programme on Tuesday June 16 called Running the Shop.

Truffles has 13 stores across the south including shops in Burgess Hill, Hailsham, Lancing and Shoreham. All took part in the show.

However, most of the filming was at the store in Henfield with some scenes also shot at the bakery in Small Dole.

Staff at all the Truffles stores were set the challenge of running the shops themselves without any help from higher management for three weeks.

In the Henfield branch they were also asked to complete tasks including redecoration and a re-branding of the shop.

Sam Foster, manager at the store, said: “I did enjoy it. It was nice because we could say we are going to do this today. It was a change and I do like change but it was stressful.

“It was a good experience but probably not one that I would want to do again.”

Assistant manger Alison Keeler added: “We were really happy that we were given more responsibilty.

“I think everyone enjoyed it as it was a completely different experience.”

Molly Tompsett, marketing director for Truffles, said she was very pleased with how all the stores coped and the company was looking to take forward a few ideas which had come out of the programme.

She said: “The staff did an absolutely fantastic job.

“It was a really good opportunity for us to give the power back to the staff. We took a risk and it could have gone wrong.

“But they all stepped up to the plate and that is not just everyone that is shown on the programme, that is those behind the scenes as well.”

Peter Tompsett, managing director, explained why he decided to let his business appear on the programme.

He said: “I don’t think we get enough recognition for what we do. We get left behind because we are not prepared to go out and blow our own trumpets.

“We are a family business competing in a very competitive market and what Truffles offer is a local family business that employs a lot of local people.”
