As reported by the BBC, Geoff Taylor filmed the animal as it ate a bakewell tart taken from the fridge, and then exits through the kitchen cat flap when it realises it is being watched.

The footage was caught after Mr Taylor, 63, was woken by the animal in the middle of the night.

The badger had been caught raiding the same fridge the day before, when it had managed to eat six eggs, including their shells.

The video was posted by Emma Barrow, Mr Taylor’s niece.

Ms Barrow said: “Undeterred by lights and everything else he’s quite happy to help himself to the contents of the fridge.”

“He was obviously very hungry.”

“Needless to say, my uncle Geoff actually locked the cat flap after that event because the badger still tried to get back in the same night and the next night.”

Mrs Barrow works for Cornwall Environment Consultants, which works alongside developments to safely rehome or build around badger setts and also provides ecological surveys on creatures such as badgers.

Ms Barrow said: “We should treat badgers with caution and respect, as they bite if cornered.”

“Hopefully the footage shows what wonderful characters they can be too.”
