A meeting was held in Worthing today (October 23) over the Shoreham Airshow ribbons tribute on the Old Toll Bridge after residents raised concerns the ribbons were bad for the environment.

Leader of West Sussex County Council Louise Goldsmith said: “I had a really positive meeting with some of the families and friends today and I want to thank them for meeting with me.

“We have agreed that the ribbons will remain on Shoreham Tollbridge until work has started on an interim area of reflection by the Tollbridge which will incorporate a ribbon tribute.

“This area will be a special space for families and friends, as well as the community, to remember and reflect those who sadly lost their lives.

“When the time is right, there will be discussions with the families, friends and wider community about where and what a fitting and permanent memorial should be. In the meantime it is important to focus on creating the area of reflection.”

Hundreds of ribbons were tied to the bridge on Thursday, October 8, in memory of 24-year-old victim Matt Jones from Littlehampton and the other ten victims.
