Cover donates wooden sleepers to miniature railway

Beech Hurst Park Miniature Railway in Haywards Heath was given 1000 wooden sleepers free of charge from the Chichester branch of Covers Timber and Building Merchants.

Covers has supported the voluntary organisation which is operated and maintained by the Sussex Miniature Locomotive Society.

The Russian Larch sleepers help to form the tracks which now cover almost half a mile. The line which has been extended since it was originally built in 1951 now boasts two tunnels, steaming bays where locomotives are prepared for running, coloured light signalling equipment and a club house for the locomotive machinery.

Bob Tee, Timber Director at Covers, said: “Beech Hurst is such a unique place and at Covers we feel it is important to preserve English treasures such as these and to support our local heritage in Sussex.

“Voluntary organisations such as the Sussex Miniature Locomotive Society rely upon investment from the community to help keep projects like these alive.”
