Cyclist suffers 'significant head injuries' in attack by driver in Turners Hill

A cyclist has suffered 'significant head injuries' after being attacked by a driver in Mid Sussex.

Sussex Police said officers were called to Paddockhurst Road in Turners Hill at 4.50pm yesterday (April 13) following reports of an alleged assault on a cyclist.

The driver of a black Mercedes had overtaken the cyclist, before getting out of the vehicle and allegedly assaulting him with what is believed to be a metal pole, police said.

The victim, a man in his 40s, suffered significant head injuries and was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton.

Officers arrested a 28-year-old man from East Grinstead on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent. He remains in custody at this time, police said.

Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Jon Robeson added: “This is a fast-moving investigation with officers able to make a swift arrest.

“The victim has suffered significant head injuries and is currently in hospital receiving medical treatment.
