Driver arrested after East Grinstead cyclist, 78, critically injured in collision

A 78-year-old cyclist has been critically injured in a collision with a car in East Grinstead.

According to Sussex Police, emergency services including the air ambulance were called to Beeching Way at 11.09am this morning (April 24).

The 78-year-old cyclist, described by police as a local man, suffered multiple injuries in the collision with a Vauxhall Astra and was taken to Kings College Hospital in London.

A 55-year-old man from East Grinstead was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, police said, and remained in custody as of 4.15pm.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam footage of either vehicle in the time leading up to it, is asked to report online or call 101 quoting Operation Juniper. Police would particularly like to speak to a couple who were walking a dog in the area at the time.
