Fury at ‘depraved and cowardly’ mutilation of dog in Haywards Heath

The mutilation of a dog in Haywards Heath has been branded ‘depraved and cowardly’ by furious animal lovers.

Readers took to our Facebook pages to vent their anger after we reported that a dog was cut in half with a machete or sword in a garden.

The horrific attack on the animal - which police say was also filmed and shared on social media - has led to an appeal for help catching the culprits.

Mid Sussex Prevention Inspector Darren Taylor said it was ‘so shocking and disturbing that even after nearly 20 years in the force it even made me feel ill’.

Responding to our report, Gillian Yarnell wrote: “Sickening! Vicious cruel individuals.

“There’s no excuse to do this. This is an evil thing to do.”

Richard Davy said: “This is so depraved and cowardly.”

Lorraine Pollard added: “Seriously the world has some very sick individuals.”

Gordon Abbey-Tibbitts said learning of the act left him ‘shaking’ and Gemma Sadler added it was ‘heart-breaking’.

Ann-Marie Gravett condemned the act as ‘barbaric’.

John Kelly said the behaviour was ‘sick’ and Stephanie Bannon added it was ‘awful’.
