Man charged with murder of teenager in Chichester

A man is due to appear in court today charged with murdering a teenager in Chichester.

Eighteen-year-old Luke Jeffreye, from Linden Road, Bognor Regis, was found with serious stab wounds in Alexandra Road just after 9pm on Friday evening.

He was initially taken to St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester and then transferred to Southampton General Hospital where he sadly died at around 1am on Saturday morning.

Sussex Police said Samuel Morgan, 19, unemployed, of Adelaide Road, Chichester, was charged just before midnight on Sunday with murder and possession of an offensive weapon (namely a knife) in a public place. He was remanded in custody to appear at Crawley Magistrates’ Court today.

Another man, aged 20, also from Chichester, who was arrested on suspicion of murder around 4am on Saturday, was released from custody on Sunday afternoon without charge.

A bouquet of roses has been left in Alexandra Road, Chichester where Luke was stabbed on Friday night and his friends have been congregating at the spot.
