New police district commander for Mid Sussex

Temporary Chief Inspector Simon Beardwell has taken over as the district commander after working in many areas across the force.

Simon has worked in Mid Sussex as a Neighbourhood Response Inspector and has also worked in other West Sussex districts in operational roles including Road Policing, Neighbourhood Response and Investigations as well as in the Corporate Development Department leading change and review projects.

He said: “I have recently returned from secondment with the Think Family Expansion Programme at West Sussex County Council, which has provided me with first hand experience of how partners can work together to improve the lives of families for future generations.

“I feel very privileged to return to the district and take up the role as Mid Sussex District Commander. I will be working with some excellent policing teams and I am sure together we will be able to continue delivering and improving the service we provide to all the communities of Mid Sussex.”

Outgoing district commander Jon Hull, who had worked at Mid Sussex since January 2012, is taking up a role at Sussex Police headquarters to lead the Forces Response Project to look into call response times.

Jon said: “I want to take this opportunity to thank partners and staff for their obvious contribution in keeping Mid Sussex a safe place to live and work, I am sure the new district commander will continue this work within the district. My new role at headquarters is an exciting opportunity and I am looking forward to the challenge.”
