Police and bomb disposal squad called to Mid Sussex

The bomb disposal squad has been called to Mid Sussex after two mortars were found in a field.

Mid Sussex Police said they were discovered in a field around Cuckfield village this morning (October 31).

The bomb squad has been called to ensure a 'safe disposal' of the mortars.

In a tweet, Mid Sussex Police said: "Unusual start for us today having to guard two mortars found in a field around Cuckfield village.

"We are working with the bomb squad to ensure safe disposal.

"Hopefully this will not take too long as we have had planned proactive patrols around Mid Sussex today."
