Sussex Roads Police deals with more than 400 offences - One driver caught travelling at 128mph

Drivers have been warned to drive responsibly and keep to the speed limit even if the roads are quiet during lockdown.

Sussex Roads Police said it has dealt with more than 400 offences, which were mostly related to speeding.

Its post on Twitter this afternoon (Sunday, May 23), read: "Once again, officers and staff from across the Sussex Roads Policing Unit, Sussex Safer Roads Partnership and Neighbourhood Policing Teams have worked together carrying out marked and unmarked patrols across the roads of Sussex

"Although the majority of road users were behaving responsibly, we have dealt with in excess of 400 offences. Once again, the majority of these were for excess speed, the highest recorded speed being 128mph.

"With speed being one of the top factors in collisions involving death or serious injury everybody must play their part by driving responsibly and keeping to the speed limit."

This latest warning comes after Sussex Police branded a video of a car travelling above 200mph on the M23 between Gatwick and Crawley as 'one of the most appalling' examples of dangerous driving. Read more here
