Trains diverted after conductor assaulted
Trains have been diverted after a conductor was assaulted at a station.
A spokesman for Southern Rail said trains were diverted to run via the Quarry Line this morning (Friday, July 7).
The attack saw a train travelling south from London stop at Merstham. It terminated at Redhill after police were called.
The spokesman said: “We were able to divert trains to run via the Quarry Line.
“Once the incident was dealt with by the police, the train was terminated at Redhill. Services are running normally.”
Commuters have flooded onto Twitter to ask why their trains have been delayed.
One Twitter user, James Baker, said the attack was ‘appalling’.
Around 8.30 am, Southern Rail tweeted: “There is a train currently a stand at Merstham on the line travelling away from London, delays may occur.”
