The warning follows a report to police that a girl was seen trying to unclip a Staffordshire terrier dog from outside McColls in Hassocks on Tuesday, April 26.

The owner of the Staffy challenged the girl, who was aged between 12 and 14, outside the Post Office around 10.30am, say police.

A man in a new-shape red Ford Focus called out to her and they left.

The girl is described as white, with a slightly flushed round face, light brown hair and was wearing blue jeans, a pink top and headband, and pink trainers.

Anyone with information about the incident or any other similar one is asked to email [email protected] or call 101 quoting serial 478 of 26/04.

Meanwhile, Holbrook Animal Rescue shared a message on Facebook that stated that some would-be dog thieves were on foot and others were in cars ‘leaving the passenger to get out and grab the dog.’

They say another attempt was made to steal a dog outside Sainsbury’s in Hassocks.
