NOVEMBERFEST: The Cuckfield European Association is holding the Novemberfest at the Old School on November 28 with a French flavour; since it is anticipated that our friends from Aumale will be joining us for the weekend. The festivities start at 11.30am. All are welcome, CEA members or not, and tickets will be on sale at Wealden stores from November 1 at a cost of £12, children under 16 years half price.

LECTURE: Cuckfield Museum’s November lecture is The Women’s Land Army by Ian Everest, Historian, on Tuesday November 10 in the Council Chamber, Queen’s Hall, Cuckfield at 2.30pm. Ian’s mother was one of 80,000 Land Girls during WW2 and his talk includes some of her personal memories and a history of the role of women on Sussex farms during two world wars. This illustrated presentation shows what a debt our country owed to these Cinderellas of the Fields, with their vital contribution in feeding our country only gaining official recognition many years later after their disbanding in 1950. Please ring Mike Nicholson to reserve a seat on 01444 457448. Admission £5 and £3 for members. More information at
