Garden Sage is considered a nursery as opposed to a garden centre because they try to ensure the majority of what is sold is grown by themselves, instead of being bought in.

Ed gave some delightful tales of how he came to be in Hassocks, the tough journey he had to endure in order to get the nursery where it is today, and his travels over the years where he has seen many native and exciting plants. He was funny, enlightening and incredibly knowledgeable of the many plants around the world. Ed described in detail the hardship of the job itself, the early starts, the late finishes, the blistering heat inside polytunnels and greenhouses over the summer and the back breaking work that goes into growing the many magnificent perennials. Continuing many garden projects in his own home with his family, he clearly has a passion and it was a pleasure to have him speak. The Cuckfield WI meets every third Tuesday of the month with the October meeting being held on the 16th at the Baptist Church on Polestub Lane.
