Cuckfield Museum: talk on Thursday 11th October at 2.30 pm in the Council Chamber, Queen's Hall Cuckfield by Dr Janet Pennington on 'Witches, Warlocks and Wellingtons' and The Ritual Protection of the Home.

The talk examines some of the ways people in the past protected themselves and their homes from evil. Samples of protective items will be on display and can be handled. The Independent State of Cuckfield: is organising a Tea Dance on November 11th from 3-5 at The Queen’s Hall. The tickets are £5 which includes tea, sandwiches, homemade cake, and of course music.

Cuckfest 2018: opens tonight in the Talbot with a sold-out literary quiz compiled by a team of enthusiastic readers in Cuckfield. Friday night sees a supper with poetry readings at Ockenden Manor and then Saturday and Sunday are packed with events at the Queen’s Hall and the Baptist Church. The Young People’s events on Saturday at the Baptist Church will be fun and frantic and doors open at 10am on Saturday when tickets will be available for sessions not yet sold out. For adults, the first event is on Saturday at 11am and thereafter there are lots of fascinating sessions with something for everyone. Cuckfest ends on Sunday night - with a change of venue. The Big Book Group is now going to be held in the Hayloft, upstairs in The Talbot to ensure a warm and convivial time is had by all. There’s no need to have read the book being discussed, just buy a ticket either at the Queen’s Hall over the weekend or at the door of The Talbot on Sunday night from 7.30 onwards. www.cuckfieldbookfest.co.uk

Starting over the weekend: of 6th/7th October to coincide with the Cuckfield Bookfest, the Museum will be having a second-hand book sale of items from our reserve collection. They are all of general Sussex interest and prices will vary according to age and condition. Also for sale @ 50p each will be old postcards, both blank and used, that are duplicates from the main accessioned archive of over 800 images. Subjects include South Street, Holy Trinity and the churchyard, Cuckfield Park, individual houses, Whiteman’s Green, Broad Street and Cuckfield High Street.
