Cuckfield WI: members met at the Baptist Chapel in Polestub Lane on 21st March to be entertained by a talk on “Women of Ancient Egypt” given by Carole Andrews. Carole is passionate about her subject, and spoke knowledgably ( and without notes!) about seven extraordinary women who lived thousands of years ago. In fact, in 3000 years, there were 300 Pharoahs, 10 of whom were female.

Every woman had legal rights over her own property, and could work. Frightening to think that women in England didn’t enjoy these rights until after 1882! Carole concluded her fascinating talk, by telling us about Cleopatra, who managed to kill off most of her family, and despite being Greek, was the only Egyptian queen to speak Egyptian! On 21st March Neil Sadler will give a talk on “California Dreaming” at the Cuckfield Baptist Chapel where visitors will be welcome. For details about the WI can be obtained from the secretary, Marion Davison 01444 455939.
