It consists of many laps of a short course, usually combining a mix of pavements, wooded trails, grass, steep hills and obstacles.

Riders might need to quickly dismount and carry their bikes on some parts of the course. The emphasis is on riders’ stamina, endurance and bike-handling skills.

For the third round of the event Sussex IFA Mike Oliver Associates and affiliated company Oliver Standing Construction Limited were named as official sponsors.

The firm was chosen to be the face of this round due to its long history of supporting local sporting events.

The company has lended its name to a series of promotional material including a fun piece of kit, namely the cow bell, which it said has been a useful piece of kit in these types of events.

Mike Oliver, who is a cycling enthusiast, attended the event with several members of his team.

He said: “We (were) thrilled to be supporting this exhilarating event, which attracts top riders.”
