Dale lives the dream

Lead male vocalist Dale Page is living the dream this summer on tour with High School Mania (Pavilion Theatre, Worthing, Thursday, August 25, 6pm).

“As a young adult in the past few years, we’ve been very much in the era of High School Musical and Glee which are just so popular now,” Dale says.

“My love for it is that while I am not a child, I can appreciate it in a different way as a performer as a great thing that really appeals to a wide audience, to the older audiences as well as the younger audiences.

“For me, all this goes back to when I went to a regular school for a while and was always involved in school productions. I realised that I wanted to take it a bit more seriously, so I auditioned for the Sylvia Young Theatre School and got in. I went there for a few years when I was 13-15. I did my GSCEs there and that’s when I fell in love with doing this kind of thing.

“When I was younger, I wanted to be a pop star, but then I fell in love with theatre as well. I continued training and went to the Brit school in Croydon and then I trained again at Mountview and from there I got an agent.

“My agent that I have got now put me up for this. I came down for the audition, and there were lots and lots of people. The girls auditioned before us, and then we went and did a dance routine. It was really difficult to get to the front to try to learn it, but it was a good time. They took a small group and then some people were cut. Then they asked us to sing. I sang Grace Kelly by Mika and then there was another cut when people on the panel asked some more people to go home. After the second cut, I had to sing again. I sang a ballad that time. They said thank you and then we just had to wait and hear. And I got it!”
