Ditchling Players Autumn Production - Auditions are on Monday 3 August 2015 8:00pm. I do hope that you managed to come along and see the Ditchling Players Spring production of ‘The Ladykillers’ in May. As a member of the cast it was good to see so many people in the audience and particularly pleasing to hear the laughter, which makes all the hard work by both the cast and crew worthwhile. Since the curtain came down we’ve been busy with the autumn 2015 production which I’m pleased to say will be the thriller ‘Nightmare’ by Norman Robbins and directed by Penelope Bennett with production dates of 18th to 21st November. Marion Bishop is a writer of romantic novels and is dying. When her usual carer goes on leave her place is taken by an experienced nurse from London and it’s then that a series of mysterious phone calls start to occur. These, plus the appearance of Marion’s nephew, set off a nightmare situation which becomes even more complicated when a murder occurs. Deceit, suspicion, blackmail and incrimination are subtly woven into a web of crime, completed by a dramatic confrontation and ingenious twist which brings everything to a surprising close. The auditions for this production are being held at Ditching Village Hall on Monday 3rd August at 8.00pm. The cast consists of 3 men and 4 women of varying ages, so if you’re interested in being involved in this production we would be pleased to see you on the 3rd. If you’re unable to make the audition date but are still interested in being involved please contact me David Tettersell on 01273 844868.
60s Music Evening in Ditchling Saturday October 17, 7.30pm at Ditchling Village Hall Following the last six years’ sell-out 60s music discos in Ditchling Village Hall, we are repeating the event on October 17 featuring, as before, a top Brighton DJ and all those great bands of the 60s decade. So ‘C’mon Everybody!’ You can dance to the Rolling Stones, Beatles, Kinks, Supremes, Manfred Mann and all your favourites and help raise money for a wildlife charity (see below) at the same time. Tickets cost just £13 including light refreshments. A well-stocked bar will be available, with all profits going to the charity, but you can bring your own drinks if you prefer. As numbers are strictly limited, it is advisable to book your tickets early to avoid being disappointed, which unfortunately happens to some people every year due to the popularity of this event. Tickets are available from August 1st at Ditchling Post Office and Parkers in Ditchling High Street or by phoning 01273 845361. NO TICKETS WILL BE AVAILABLE ON THE DOOR. The charity which will benefit is Fauna & Flora International (reg charity 1011102), backed by Sir David Attenborough and under the patronage of HM the Queen. Last year we raised £2800 (comprising £1400 proceeds of the disco plus match-funding from a commercial concern) to help the critically endangered Mountain Gorillas of East Africa. Only about 800 of these gentle and charismatic apes remain and our funding last year has helped their continued survival. This year’s proceeds will again help threatened primates and more details of the project we’ve selected will be available soon. Make sure you get ‘Satisfaction’ by getting your ticket early – don’t risk turning ‘A Whiter Shade of Pale’ by leaving it too late!
