Ditchling Film Society: on 7 July the last film of the season is Pride which is based on an inspirational true story about a group of lesbian and gay activists who raise money to help families affected by the British miners’ strike. A great comedy-drama written by Stephen Beresford. Director: Matthew Warchus. English. 2014. 119 min. 15 Cert. This film will be shown in Ditchling Village Hall starting at 8pm. Doors open at 7.30pm. Free coffee and biscuits beforehand and wine can be purchased by the glass. There is ample free parking behind the hall. Guests and temporary members are welcome. £5.00 payable on the door.
Open Gardens in Ditchling: Visit five beautiful gardens in Ditchling on Sunday 10 July, 2-5pm. Take the opportunity to see a variety of gardens whilst raising funds for St Peter and St James Hospice. Three are in the Shirleys and homemade teas are available at 37 Shirleys. More gardens open in East End Lane and Lewes Rad. Tickets £5 per person, children free. All proceeds to the hospice. Ditchling Horticultural Society: Annual Summer Show on Saturday 9 July, 2-4pm. The Annual Show is being held in Ditchling Village Hall. This show displays the best home grown fruit and seasonable vegetables. In addition the hall should be filled with the scent of roses, sweet peas and other summer flowers. Flower arranging classes include “An Exhibit depicting Rio 2016”, an arrangement of Silver and Gold. There is a class for snapshot photography, the theme this year is “A Doorway”. Children’s classes include “A Ginerbread Man, iced”, and “A Cress Head”. When you have viewed the exhibits please sample some refreshments, tea and homemade cake. There is also Muriel’s famous raffle. Entrance is 50p for non-members, children free. Beacon Parish News: Jazz, Picnics and Pimms on Ditchling village green on Sunday 31 July. 12 noon - 4pm. Organised by the Beacon Parish no ticket is required. This is a free community event and suitable for all ages featuring live jazz and popular music. A bar will provided. This year the music is provided by the ever fabulous Bobbie du Bois and the Shoeshine Boy, supported by the stars of Gin Palace Productions and the Nixons. Come along, eat, drink, sing, dance and be merry.
