Ditchling Film Society: On Thursday 16 March the Society is showing Suffragette. In early twentieth century Britain the growing suffragette movemment changes the life of working wife and mother, Maud Watts. Galvanised by politicial activist, Emmeline Pankhurst, Maud joins a diverse group of women who fight for equality and the right to vote. Faced with increasing police action, Maud and her dedicated suffragettes have to play a dangerous game of cat and mouse, risking their jobs, homes, family and lives for a just cause. As gripping and as visceral as any thriller, the film is also heart-breaking and inspirational. Director: Sarah Gavron. English. 2015. 106 mins. 12a Cert. On Thursday 6 April the Society is showing Dheepan. Director: Jacques Audiard. English, French, Tamil. 2015. 115 mins. 15 Cert. The films are shown in Ditchling Village Hall and start at 8pm. Breaking News: It has just been announced that Ditchling’s popular 60s music evening will return this autumn due to popular demand. The organisers received so many requests to re-instate this event, after not running it in 2016, that it was decided to hold another disco on Saturday 21 October this year. As before, former radio DJ Tony the Legend will host an evening of 60s favourites and all proceeds will go to charity. Tickets will be available in the summer, meanwhile 60s music fans may want to save the date. Further information 01273 845361.
