A statement from the museum said: “Driven by the Director, the museum has already achieved strong success over the last 18 months. The new role will enable Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft to build on this success, whilst also freeing up the Director to focus on a capital project that will also contribute to the organisation’s long-term resilience.”

Museum director Nathaniel Hepburn, said: “We are delighted to have received a second grant from Arts Council England’s Museum Resilience Fund in support of our plans for growth and sustainability. Since a major re-development in 2014, for which we became an ArtFund Museum of the Year finalist, the museum has gone from strength to strength.

“We have developed a varied exhibitions programme from our collection and with amazing, high-profile contemporary artists which has received widespread national publicity. We have also developed our first major Public Programme, in partnership with Brighton Festival, British Council, University of Brighton and many other partners, which saw the museum doubling previous annual audience numbers.

“The museum remains ambitious for the future and through this grant we will nurture and develop our funding base from which our unique narrative is shared to an ever wider audience.”

John Orna-Ornstein, director of museums at Arts Council England said: “The focus of our investment approach for museums in 2015-18 is on building a more resilient sector. The Museum Resilience fund is a key part of that, providing vital support to museums right across the country.

“It is really important that museums are able to diversify their income, capitalising on new opportunities and exploring fundraising prospects. And so we are really pleased to support Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft as it realises it ambitions in this area.”
