Dream trip for a little '˜warrior princess' after cancer battle

The holiday of a lifetime to Disney World has been made possible after a massive crowdfunding campaign to raise cash for the stricken youngster and her family.

Four-year-old Florence Leppard was first diagnosed with a rare type of liver cancer in May 2014 and was dubbed Warrior Princess by her parents Kerry and John when they were told little Florrie had only a five per cent chance of survival.

She underwent a gruelling seven cycles of chemotherapy and an operation to remove the tumour and two thirds of her liver.

But now Florrie, from Wood Ride, Haywards Heath, has been in remission for more than a year thanks to life saving treatment at the Royal Marsden specialist cancer hospital in Sutton and King’s Paediatric Liver Centre, a national hub providing a specialised service to children with liver problems.

Mum and dad, Kerry and John, with Florrie’s sisters Daisy and Elsa, will now embark on an ‘American Dream Experience’ in April thanks to ‘Kids Cancer Charity’.

Kerrie’s godmother Liz Burns said: “With unwavering support from family, friends, and friends of friends, half the cost of the trip has already been raised in just four weeks by hosting a Valentine’s Disco and setting up an online crowdfunding page.”

Crowdfunding efforts to help the family with costs towards the dream holiday began when Florrie’s Nana Maureen Brosnan and auntie Lucy Parker raised £760 from the disco and raffle at the Haywards Heath United Services Club.

While tickets were selling, a JustGiving Crowdfunding page was also set up by Florrie’s godmother Liz in response to requests from supporters who wanted to donate in other ways.

The page received £500 in online donations in the first 48 hours, enabling relatives, friends and friends of friends to get behind the campaign from across the UK, Ireland and America.
