Some train services resume

First Capital Connect is running train services between Brighton and Haywards Heath and Southern has started running a few services between East Croydon and Victoria.

There are no direct trains from Brighton to London after the overnight storm caused flooding in Balcombe Tunnel, electrical problems and blockages due to fallen trees and branches.

A spokesman for the train operator said: “We are currently trying gauge the full extent of this damage and the prospect for operating services safely.”

Only the listed services are currently operating:

East Croydon – Victoria – East Croydon

Epsom/Dorking – Victoria – Epsom/Dorking

Beckenham Jnc – London Bridge – Beckenham Jnc

Caterham – East Croydon/London Bridge – Caterham

Oxted/East Grinstead – London Bridge – Oxted East Grinstead

Brighton – Barnham – Brighton

Barnham – Bognor Regis – Barnham

Brighton – Eastbourne – Brighton

Brighton – Newhaven – Brighton
