Success story for Hassocks Community Cycle Hire

Arundel and South Downs MP Nick Herbert has praised the enterprise of Hassocks Community Cycle Hire, which is set to expand if enough investment can be secured.

The MP popped into the cycle hire shop by The Hassocks pub and met Jacqui Whatford and Colin and Toby Wilsdon who run the scheme.

The project has been going for three years and has become an asset to the community and to commuters wanting to explore the Downs.

As the scheme grows, there are plans to move the hire shop to a more prominant position, so that it is clearly visible from the station.

Colin Wilsdon, said: “Business has steadily increased over the last two years and we are now working with Southern Rail to develop a new hire building at Hassocks station. What we need now is financial support to expand our opening hours and tap into the growing market.”

Toby Wilsdon added: “This is an inspiring project providing a service both for locals and visitors to our area. It also provides employment, training and volunteering opportunities for local people and encourages green and healthy living. We are delighted that Nick wishes to see it succeed.”

Hassocks Community Cycle Hire is a social enterprise established with the aim of encouraging sustainable tourism in Hassocks and the surrounding area.
