News that multinational finance company American Express is to move part of its operations back to Burgess Hill has been hailed as “a welcome boost for jobs”.

A spokesman for American Express has confirmed that staff will move into Sussex House, the company’s iconic building off Civic Way in 2015 but it is not known at this stage, how many people will re-locate from Brighton or how many new jobs will be created.

Sussex House was vacated about two years ago but speculation has been rife in recent weeks that part of the operation from the company’s new Brighton headquarters will move back to Mid Sussex.

A spokesman for the multinational said: “A full refurbishment of the building will begin in the near future, with a view to re-populating the building in 2015.”
