Commuters struggled to park at Haywards Heath station this morning (February 23) as spaces were lost to the construction of the new multi-storey car park.
Work started on the new multi-storey in November 2014. Southern Rail has promised the new car park will provide 230 additional spaces.
A spokesman for Southern Rail said: “Phase 2 of the construction of the multi-storey car park started today which meant that unfortunately we did lose more spaces to accommodate the larger area needed at this point in the project.
“Posters advising of the change have been at the station for the past four weeks, but we recognise that we need to bolster our station communications to be more effective, so that they reach everyone affected.
“We apologise for this.
“We have marshalls in place who are advising drivers of the changes and assisting them when they arrive at the station.”
