The fishermen, who have a branch in Horsham, have been the winners of Best Sussex Food Shop for the past two years.

They join other loyal supporters of the scheme including Cheese Please, Harveys, Natural PR, Sodexo Prestige, Spofforths, The Southern Cooperative and Sussex Food & Drink Network, demonstrating their support for the local food and drink industry in the county.

Chris Veasey said: “Being part of The Sussex Food & Drink Awards has been very good for us since we opened in 2010 and winning the awards has really helped to build our profile.

“We have had new customers from the surrounding villages and towns and even as far afield as London.

The people of Sussex have embraced our fish both in our shop and at our local food markets in Lewes and East Grinstead.”

Mrs Gunnell, who is patron of the Sussex Food and Drink Awards, said: “We are looking for the very best Sussex farmers, food and drink producers, food shops, butchers, farmers markets, young chefs and food outlets, helping the public to find them and make the most of the amazing food and drink that is made in this county.

“We are asking for members of the public and businesses to put the names forward of their favourite food and drink businesses.”

Nominations for these prestigious awards, now in their ninth year, are being taken from now until June 9 at www.susexfoodawards.biz

Judges will be reviewing entries made from business owners or their customers and announcing a shortlist for each of the eight categories for public voting in July and the winners receive their awards in January at a spectacular seven-course banquet.

There is still room for sponsors to come on board over the next month.
