Folk club welcomes Bob Fox

One of the UK’s finest folk voices makes an appearance at Arundel’s Willows Folk Club on Wednesday, September 14.

Club spokesman Chris Davis said: “Bob Fox has earned his place as one of folk music’s foremost ambassadors. Over the years, he’s carved out a devoted following thanks to his brilliant singing and guitar-playing, coupled with his personable nature and his magical live performances.

“It was working in a critically-acclaimed duo with multi-instrumentalist Stu Luckley that Bob first found fame. The duo enjoyed tremendous success on the folk scene in the late 1970s and on into 1980. Although traditional material made up a large part of their repertoire, they also tackled more contemporary songs by writers such as Gerry Rafferty and Kate and Anna McGarrigle. The duo toured Australia, New Zealand, Holland, Germany and Switzerland, and back on home soil toured as support for both Richard and Linda Thompson and Ralph McTell.

“In 2000, the release of Bob’s debut solo album Dreams Never Leave You brought him back into the limelight where he has remained ever since. As before, Bob successfully combined his fine work as a traditional singer with more contemporary material, encompassing everything from Ewan MacColl to The Beatles. In 2003 Bob’s contribution to the British folk scene was acknowledged when he was nominated for the prestigious Best Folk Singer award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk and Acoustic Music Awards.

“In recent years, Bob has continued to establish himself as one of the leading names on the UK folk scene, and his appearance at the Willows presents an exciting opportunity to see this great performer in the intimacy of a folk club setting.”

Entrance for Bob’s gig on Wednesday, September 14 is £6.50. The Willows Folk meets every Wednesday at 8pm in the function room of Arundel Football Club, Mill Road, Arundel, situated to the rear of the large public car park opposite Arundel Castle.
