AFC Haywards raised £2,500 with a charity football match, barbecue and raffle in memory of the club founder’s mother.

The club hosted its annual charity match - with this year’s in aid of Cancer Research UK - at Victoria Park, in Haywards Heath, on September 13.

The club’s chairman and co-founder Adam Bettine lost his mother Ann Jacqueline Bettine to cancer on August 20.

Past players took on current players in the charity match and all those who took part donated £10.

After the match, players were welcomed into The Heath Tavern, in Sussex Road, by owners Laura and Rich Meanwell, and there was a raffle and barbecue.

A signed leyton orient shirt from local professional footballer Dean Cox was auctioned off on his Twitter account which raised £375.
