Forget Big Brother ... meet Big Pussycat

The live Kitty Cam has been installed at Cats Protection national cat adoption centre in Chelwood Gate - and means that cat lovers can view the feline occupants of a cat pen throughout the day.

Thanks to two web cams, viewers will be able to log in via the charity’s website to follow the antics of whichever cat is staying in the pen at the centre.

The charity hopes that by allowing cat lovers an insight into the daily life of cats at the centre more people will choose to adopt a cat through its branches across the UK.

Anyone can view the live stream by visiting www.cats.org.uk/cats-live There is no need to register and the cameras will be on when the Cats Protection team is on duty looking after the needs of all the cats in care from 8.15am until 4.45pm every day.

Cats Protection’s virtual homing manager Clare Kiernan said: “We’re always looking for ways to tell people about the many wonderful cats we have in our care throughout the UK that need a new, loving home.

“The web cams seemed like a brilliant idea to us, so people can see for themselves just how funny, charming and entertaining cats can be.

“The cameras will always be in the same pen, but the cats will change as they find new homes, so there will be a great mix of feline characters to get to know.

“Whether you’re taking a sneaky break from work to log on, or watching online with the kids, the live stream is endlessly entertaining.

“We are starting with just the one pen but plans are to get more pens ‘going live’ so watch this space.

“From the high-energy mayhem created when the pen is occupied by a litter of kittens, to the calming and relaxing vibes from a resting older cat, we hope that by tuning in viewers will get a sense of what they’re missing out on and choose to adopt a cat from Cats Protection.”

Cats Protection is the UK’s largest charity, helping around 200,000 cats every year through a national network of over 250 volunteer-run branches and 32 centres.
