Former Cranleigh pupil shot in Paris attacks recovering well

A former Cranleigh pupil has been confirmed as one of the Britons injured in the Paris terror attacks.

Jack McNiven was shot after gunmen launched a series of terrorist attacks across the French Capital on Friday (November 13).

At least 129 people have been killed and hundreds more injured. More than 100 are in a critical condition.

It was reported Mr McNiven was shot in the shoulder whilst he was out for a drink with a friend in La Carillon bar.

His family have flown out to see the 27-year-old and have said he is recovering well.

A spokesman for Cranleigh School said: “Jack McNiven is confirmed as one of the Britons injured in the Paris attacks on Friday evening.

“He is a former Cranleigh pupil. His mother, Helen McNiven, is Head of Art at Cranleigh Prep School and his father, Peter McNiven, is an acclaimed portrait artist and former Head of Art at Cranleigh School.

“Jack, a talented artist who studied at the Ecole Beaux-Arts, is currently being treated in a Paris hospital.

“His father has reported that Jack is in excellent hands and doing well and the family hopes he will be discharged in the next few days.

“The family have stated that Jack does not want to talk much about what happened yet.”

Mr McNiven is currently living in the French capital after setting up his own business called Draw Paris, encouraging tourist to explore the city whilst recording their experiences in drawings.

Headmaster of Cranleigh Prep School Michael Wilson said: “We are all shocked and saddened by these events and very pleased to hear that Jack is recovering well.

“Our thoughts are with his family and with the families of everyone affected. The School and Jack’s family would urge the media to respect their privacy at this difficult time.”
