Hair cut to help those touched by cancer in Haywards Heath

Sophie Smith’s grandmother died of cancer, and she knows someone who is currently in Sussex children’s hospice Chestnut Tree House.

The 15-year-old said: “I think we have all been touched by cancer, it may be a family member or a friend, and supporting Cancer Research Uk is something I want to do for my family, for my friends.”

Sophie is also raising money for Chestnut Tree House and supporting The Little Princess Trust.

“My hair will grow back but there are hundreds of children that don’t have hair through having cancer treatment, this is why my hair will be going to The Little Princess Trust this way they can feel special again,” she added.

Sophie attends Warden Park School in Cuckfield.

“Chestnut Tree House is the only children’s hospice in the area which provides support for life limited children and their whole family and they need money to help provide all the care required,” she said.

Sophie aims to raise £1,000 in total for the two charities.

Her mother, Denise, said: “Her grandmother died of cancer so she’s always wanted to do things. Her hair is so thick, she said some kids could have a wig out of my hair.”

Sophie added: “What I am doing is something little but any money will help a lot. Please can you donate what you can.”
