Good news! I have heard that the Parish Hall will not now be closing in March next year, nor will the Bowls Club, Rifle Club or Social Club and there is hope that we will have a new hall in place for when it does close. I understand that the Slaugham Parish Community Land Trust will become the lead tenant and the current Management Committee will continue to run the facilities as they have in the past until further notice. This is really good news as I know a lot of the Hall’s regular users were becoming worried they would not be able to find an alternative venue for their meetings that would match the facilities they have been used to. However, some may now be asking if this means that the Hall will be refurbished; I’m afraid that I don’t know about this but feel fairly sure when I say if we are to get a new hall, the existing one will not be refurbished. I will continue to keep you posted of any developments that I hear.

We are now truly into the swing of Christmas with the WI (afternoon) holding their Christmas Party in the Parish Hall on Monday evening from 7.30 pm. Despite it being their party, there will still be an opportunity to take part in the monthly competitions which are ‘Brandy Butter in a Ramekin’ and/or ‘A Christmas Cracker in any Medium’. The next party will be the Rosemary Club who are having their Christmas Lunch at Highley Manor on Wednesday for members only. If you are still unsure as to how you are going to get to the Rosemary Club’s lunch please contact Joan on 01293 525890. Their next meeting which will be open to everyone will be on Wednesday, 20 January 2016 and I would say that this is a friendship club that is open to everyone, male, female, young or old, so long as you are an adult! If you have friends in other villages in the Parish who would like to become a member or would like to go along to a meeting before signing up to membership, the Club can provide free transport from these villages as well as from Staplefield. If you would like more information about the Club or arranging a lift, as I say above, please contact Joan on 01293 525890.

I have informed that there have been some changes to the Community Bus timetable – yes, it does run a ‘normal’ bus timetable as well as going on outings! The main change is that it will be going to Horsham three times a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the morning at about the same time each day. If you would like more information about these changes, call the Hardware Shop on 01444 400212 or call in and see them; there will be a new timetable published in the not too distant future. I have also heard that several trips are being planned to large shops and retail parks, the first of which will be on Tuesday, 5 January to Holmbush Retail Park (large Marks & Spencer and Next!) departing from the village at 11.30 am and the fare is £6. This will be followed in April with a trip to IKEA in Croydon on the 19th; departing at 11 am and costing £8; then on 21 June to Roundstone Garden Centre in Ferring leaving at 11.30 and costing £8. If you are interested in putting your name down for any of these, please call Christina on 400212 or all in to the Hardware Shop; all trips need to be paid in advance and if cancelled, unless they are able to fill your space, unfortunately no refund will be available.
