Members and guests: of the Social Club enjoyed a Race Night back in September in aid of Dreams Come True Children's Charity raising an amazing £632 on the night! Congratulations to everyone who attended and I'm sorry I haven't mentioned your good work earlier.

Parish Hall: I have heard that the quotes for the work to the heating, electrics and redecoration of the Hall are in and agreed on and all that needs to be done is decide when the work will be done. Initial hopes are that it will take place early in the New Year and will (fingers crossed!) take no longer than a month. For those of you who are regular users and are now concerned about your booking, you will be contacted as soon as the exact dates are known in order that alternative arrangements can be made. Please don’t feel that you are being let down by the Management Committee by losing out on a booking, just look forward to being able to use a warm Hall in the cold months! As soon as I hear more, I will let you now. With regard to the lease, conversations are still taking place but the finishing line is getting ever closer and again, as soon as I know more I will let you know!

If you are into your knitting: (or crocheting!) and nattering, Devonshire House is the place to be this afternoon, Thursday, from 2.30pm. Tea and homemade cakes are provided at the nominal cost of £2 to enjoy between the knitting so why not go along and join some likeminded souls and make some new friends as everyone is made very welcome.

On Sunday, Remembrance Sunday: there will be a Memorial Service at St Mark’s Church in Staplefield from 3 pm. This service is an opportunity to remember and give thanks for those who were loved but lost not only in the Great War but in every conflict since and there have been far too many I’m sure you will agree. The service will be less than an hour of well-known hymns, readings and prayers. If you would like more information about this service or would like to have a loved one mentioned in prayers, please get in touch with the church office at the Rectory in Handcross, tel: 400221; email: [email protected] or by leaving your details at the Hardware Shop.

A date for the diary: next Saturday, 17 November, there will be a Table Top Sale & Coffee Morning in the Parish Hall from 10 am until 12 noon in aid of Handcross Preschool and Handcross Ladies Association. There will be some lovely crafts, jewellery, cards and books on sale along with the obligatory raffle and cake stall to enjoy! An ideal opportunity to start looking for some ideas for Christmas. If you would like more information about the event, get in touch with HLA’s committee at [email protected] but do go along and support all the stall holders.
