Folk Club: On Friday evening, tomorrow, the Folk Club is using the Upper Room for their meeting this month; unfortunately, I am not aware of the time that the meeting starts but if you would like to find out more, this time you need to speak to someone other than Christina! You will need to contact Andy on 401643. If you play an instrument, take it along with you and join in, or just go along and listen, either way, I’m sure you will be made to feel very welcome.

ladies Association: The meeting of the Handcross Ladies Association last month was entertained by David Parker, a chimney sweep, who told tales of meeting all kinds of people, rich and poor, as if you have an open fire, you will need to get your chimney swept on a regular basis! He went on to talk about the history of the job, its folklore and traditions - how many people are aware that it is supposed to be good luck to have a chimney sweep attend your wedding? He also talked about his other passion military history, in particular both World Wars. He also mentioned that he was looking to find someone who might be able to knit him a cardigan similar to those worn during World War 1 - if you can help or know someone who can, why not go along to the meeting later this month on Tuesday, 21 March from 7.30 pm in the Parish Hall. This month’s meeting won’t have a speaker as they are holding an ‘art project’ with Helen Allen when you will be able to make Easter Cards. Rosemary Club: On Wednesday, 15 March, the Rosemary Club will be meeting in the Parish Hall from 2.30 pm. The entertainment this month is being provided by the popular band, The River Boat Shuffle. These meetings are open to everyone at a cost of £1 per meeting; to become a member will cost £10 a year (very good value when you think of the entertainment and outings that are arranged during the year!). A homemade tea of sandwiches and cakes is enjoyed at each meeting so it seems to me a very enjoyable way to spend a Wednesday afternoon once a month! If you would like to go along but would struggle to get there, the Community Bus is available to provide a lift there and back; if you would to take advantage of this, you will need to get in touch with Alison on 01293 516017. If you would like more information about the Club in general, give Helen a ring on 400643. If you are planning on some spring cleaning in the next few weeks, bear in mind that April’s meeting will be a fund raising event in the form of a Bring and Buy Sale, an ideal way to pass on those items that are just gathering dust!

Twinning AGM: Finally, if you have read this month’s Parish Magazine, you will no doubt have read that the Twinning Association’s Annual General Meeting is being held on Thursday, 23 March at 7.30 pm; unfortunately, they are unable to hold it in the Parish Hall as advertised in the magazine, it will be held in the Pavilion on the Recreation Ground at the same time on the same date. This is a very active club with visits to France or with their long standing friends coming to stay here as well as various social events during the course of the year, including a Silent Auction on Saturday, 7 April and a Mini Walking Weekend from 19 to 21 May. If this has piqued your interest, go along on the night and see what is involved; once the business of the meeting has been dealt with, stay and enjoy a glass of wine and some cheese.
