Handcross

Don't forget the Christmas Craft Night: at the Hardware Shop tomorrow evening, Friday starting at 6.30 pm with crafts for the younger members of the village, the adult crafts will start at 7 pm. There will be 6 craft activities for you to try along with the opportunity to purchase Christmas essentials (such as decorations, wrapping paper and cards) at last year's prices, whilst at the same time looking at (and purchasing I'm sure) this year's stock! Also on view will be a Fair Trade Catalogue to allow you to order bits and bobs as well as stunning gifts for family and friends. If that isn't enough to tempt you to go along, how about enjoying all the above with a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie! Sounds like an enjoyable way to start the weekend to me!

WI@Handcross: Having mentioned the November meeting in last week’s column, I have recently been advised that at their meeting in October a ballot was held to decide if they wanted to remain as part of the Women’s Institute Federation or to form their own independent women’s group in Handcross. The vote was overwhelmingly in favour of leaving so as from the end of the year, the WI@Handcross will cease to exist! The new group, as yet unnamed, will have its inaugural meeting on 17 January 2017 at 7.30 pm in the Parish Hall. The aim will be to make it a fun, informative and supportive group for all women regardless of background, age or interest in the Handcross area. So, make a note in next year’s diary now to go along and watch a Tai Chi demonstration and learn what the new constitution will be. If you would like more information beforehand, get in touch with Janet Masters on 400111.

As I am unable to do a column for next week: I would like to take this opportunity to remind of a few events you might be interested in hearing about and hopefully attending until next time.

Next Thursday, 24 November: the Parish Council will be meeting in the Pavilion from 7.30 pm. As always, these meetings are open to everyone and there is an opportunity to ask questions or raise queries about anything on the agenda early on in the meeting. Please do remember though that the Planning Committee will not be meeting that same night, their next meeting will be on Thursday, 1 December at the same time and in the same place. Copies of the agenda for each meeting will be posted on the notice board outside the Spar Shop ahead of the meeting. If you would like to see any of the planning applications due to be discussed at the Planning Meeting, I understand the relevant paperwork is delivered to the Hardware Shop ahead of the meeting; I’m sure Les or Christina will be able to give you more information on this if you ask.

On Saturday, 26 November: First Steps are holding a Christmas Fair in the Parish Hall between 10 am and 12.30 pm. Please go along and support this local group by purchasing Christmas gifts and decorations, homemade cakes (always very popular!), jewellery and many more items – as well as purchasing a few raffle tickets whilst there! If you would like more information on what might be on offer, call Becky on 0774 504118 or Liz on 07859 037390.

The last thing to remind you of is the Neighbourhood Planning Committee meeting: which will be on Tuesday, 29 November at 7.30 pm in the Pavilion. As with all meetings related to the Parish, the agenda will be posted on the notice board outside the Spar Shop and there will be an opportunity to raise any queries or ask questions on items on the agenda early in the meeting. Fingers crossed, after this meeting I will have a little more information as to when they hope to be in a position to put on an exhibition outlining their work to date and what the next steps are required before we can all vote on ‘our’ Neighbourhood Plan and start to have some more say on what happens in the Parish as a whole.
