Alex Sharkey, a sixth former from Haywards Heath, will take centre stage as Mark, the lead character in Rent, a high octane musical set in 1980s New York.

Running from 25 to 30 March at the Wagner Hall in central Brighton, Rent is a rock musical based on Pucinni’s opera La boheme. It tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive in New York City’s Lower East Side, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS.

It is the latest production from Brighton based youth theatre group PSAA which is celebrating its 10th anniversary by staging this challenging production. Tickets are available from info@pssa.co.uk.

Alex has recently been accepted by Brighton University to read for a BSc in paramedic practice. He is a keen amateur dramatist, having performed in other well known musicals ranging from Grease and Beauty & The Beast to The Wizard of Oz.

He said: “ I love performing and I’m looking forward to the challenges I will face in this very demanding role.‎ With my interest in being a paramedic, I suppose my ideal role for the future would be to appear in Casualty - now that would be cool!”
