Haywards Heath runner raises money for charity that cared for his nan

Harry Fisher, 24, who works at Fat Face in The Orchards Shopping centre, raised the money for Macmillan Cancer Support by running the Brighton Marathon on April 6.

His dad Barry Fisher, a postman who lives on Colwell Close, Haywards Heath said: “He did it because his nan passed away with cancer, she got a brain tumour, and I’m currently suffering with lung cancer.”

Harry said that he raising the money was the best thing that he has ever done as it is something he has always wanted to do.

“I did it for my nan, my dad and in honour of three other friends that passed away last year,” he explained.

“I was even more determined with everything that’s going on.

“It’s close to my heart, they worked with my nan and they were so good to her, they’re a fantastic charity,” he added.

His father raised more than £5000 for Macmillan competing in the Bognor Birdman in 2004, 2006 and 2010, in which contestants throw themselves off Bognor Regis’ pier with the aid of human powered flight machines.

“He’s carrying on the family tradition raising money for a worthwhile cause,” he said.

The 58-year-old added that he’s proud of his son who is ‘chuffed to bits’ with his achievement.

Harry’s fundraising page explains that his friends Sharon Beard, David Macdonald and Keziah Kluge passed away last year, who were all “amazing people in their own way”.

“I want to run this marathon for them and raise some money along the way,” he said.
