Mike Oliver will set out at 10am today from the Town Hall to cycle to Bondues accompanied by Town Twinners John Sabin and his wife in the team car.

He will be waved off by Town Mayor, Sandy Ellis, and chairman of the Twinning Association, Sue French.

Mike will first cycle to Folkestone, before catching the Eurostar to Calais and then cycling to Bondues for a welcome lunch on Saturday.

He said: “I’m looking forward to my visit to our cousins although, knowing the fabulous French cooking, let’s hope I’m not too heavy for my bike on the return journey.”

After that, he can get to work to investigate the bikes and expertise of our cycling cousins.

Last year the Bike Ride raised funds to buy 16 defibrillators for the local community and presented one to both twins at Town Day.

Mike added: “It’s brilliant that our Greater Haywards Heath Bike Ride is helping to bring three communities together and make a real difference to the lives of our local cancer patients.”

This year the organisers aim to buy as many syringe drivers as possible for local cancer patients.

Although expensive, syringe drivers are small portable pumps which allow the continuous delivery of a range of therapies to cancer patients, alleviating nausea and are particularly useful emotionally and physically when a number of drugs are required together.

The Bike Ride will have 11, 21, 48 and 73 mile routes with all riders receiving a medal.
