Construction work at Haywards Heath Railway Station has been rated ‘exceptional’ for its attitude to local people.

The Waitrose construction and station refurbishment site, managed by BAM Construction, was given nine out of 10 for respecting the community by the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS).

CCS monitor Philip Garland said the site had the potential to cause major disruption but was being ‘handled extremely well’ with ‘outstanding levels of communication’.

Two hundred letters were delivered locally before the project began, giving details of the programme and contact numbers.

BAM visited a local school to deliver safety talks and a request from a nearby nursery for quiet periods between 12 and 2 has been met.

Overall CCS scored the site 40 out of 50.

BAM is refurbishing the station building and forecourt. The project is expected to complete in autumn 2016.
