Leylands Park football ground at Burgess hill was hushed as Burgess Hill players, opponents Leatherhead, officials, and the crowd paid their respects to Peter Bentley on a cold evening.

Peter, who lived in Burgess Hill, died last week at 73 after fighting cancer for several years. A former talented local footballer, he went on to become a top administrator in football, becoming, amongst other roles, chairman of the Sussex County FA and the Sussex County Football Association, receiving FA recognition of his outstanding work.

Unfortunately there were no goals to mark the occasion as the teams fought out a 0-0 draw.
